Dr. Mara Tietzen

I am originally from Edmonton AB where I completed my undergraduate degree in Kinesiology in 2009 and then gained valuable experience working as a Personal Trainer, Exercise Therapist and Movement Coach. I then returned to medical school at the University of Alberta, before moving to Vancouver for my Pediatrics Residency training at BC Children’s Hospital. After graduating in 2019 I have worked in various urban and rural locations across BC, and am now very happy to join the team of Fairmont Pediatrics in addition to my work in North Vancouver. You will be hard pressed to pull me away from the west coast now!

With previous work and personal experience in the athletic field, I am incredibly motivated to support health and movement in children of all ages and athletic abilities. Within Pediatrics I have a special interest in Pediatric Musculoskeletal medicine, and am looking forward to an upcoming year of Fellowship training in Pediatric Sports Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital.

Being a Pediatrician is forever humbling, and I have such gratitude for becoming part of the journeys of my patients and their families. Everyday I learn more about medicine, health, and humanity. I am so glad that I get to constantly expand my knowledge while being part of a career where connecting with others matters.

Most memorable moment of your career?

I have a recent memory which involved working with two siblings in a challenging situation, and the two of them made me completely melt when at our last appointment they simultaneously turned around and ran towards me for a goodbye hug. I hold those moments close.
