Dr. Samara Laskin

I was born and raised in Vancouver, and then I made my way east to attend McGill University for a Bachelor of Science in Anatomy and Cell Biology, which I completed in 2011. I then continued my studies at McMaster Medical School, graduating with a Medical Doctorate in 2014. After several years of snow tires, I was happy to move home for Pediatric Residency at BC Children’s and Women’s Hospital in Vancouver, which I completed in June 2018. During residency, I served as Associate Chief and Chief Resident of the UBC Pediatric Residency program.

I work as an attending pediatrician at Fairmont Pediatrics, at BC Children’s Hospital, where I manage inpatients on the Clinical Teaching Unit, and in Thompson Northern Manitoba, where I manage a general pediatric ward, nursery, and run a clinic. I am involved in teaching medical students and residents, and am a Clinical Instructor in the UBC Faculty of Medicine. I love the diversity of my work, and am interested particularly in newborn care, inpatient medicine, and working with underserved populations.

Outside of work, I am embarrassingly ‘Vancouver’- I like to hike, bike, and go for brunch. I also love traveling, with my recent favourite trips including Sri Lanka, Japan, and Columbia.
